In the News: Public Pensions Are About to Look Less Healthy

Public pension plans across the nation are in trouble: state and local officials are scrambling to figure out how they will cover payments for employees retiring 20 – 30 years from now. According to a post on NPR’s Planet Money blog, the unfunded gaps in public pensions are looking even worse now that cities and states are lowering their discount rate—the interest that states expect to receive on their investments.
